B3GALNT1

Last Update:2017-03-27

beta-1,3-N-acetylgalactosaminyltransferase 1 (β3GalNAcT1: B3GALNT1) is the enzyme that synthesizes globosides. B3GALNT1 was initially isolated as β3GalT3 (B3GALT3) without the GalT activity by “in silico cloning” from the similarity of their sequences. However, thereafter, Okajima and colleagues reported that β3GalNAc-T1 cloned as the globoside (Gb4) synthase was actually the same as β3Gal-T3.
