The product from this gene is highly homologous to GalNAc-transferase family. Actual enzymatic activity of GalNAc-transfer is, however, not significant, since Trp residue in the functional motif, WGGEN(Q), is replaced with Tyr. Other putative isozymes with similar amino-acid-substitution are found as GALNT9, T18 and T19.
