FUT6 |
Last Update:2017-12-21 |
This gene encodes α1,3-fucosyltransferase 6 (FUT6). Six α1,3-fucosyltransferases (α3FUT): FUT3, FUT4, FUT5, FUT6, FUT7, and FUT9 are known and confirmed that each enzyme has a characteristic substrate specificity in vitro. FUT6 has activity to transfer fucose to GlcNAc of type-2 lactosamine structure (Galβ1-4GlcNAcβ1-3-R) or sialylated type-2 lactosamine structure (NeuAcα2-3Galβ1-4GlcNAcβ1-3-R) with α1-3-linkage, and related to synthesis of Lewis x (Lex) or sialyl Lewis x (sLex) antigens. FUT6 is known to be related to many type-2 Lewis blood group antigens (i.e. Lea, Lex, Ley, sLea, sLex, and others).
