ST6GAL2

ST6GAL2, β-galactoside α-2,6-sialyltransferase 2, transfers sialic acid from CMP-sialic acid to the Galβ1→4GlcNAc structure on glycoproteins, such as asialofetuin and asialo-a1-acid glycoprotein. ST6GAL2 is also called SIAT2. ST6GAL2 utilizes the Galβ1→4GlcNAc structure on glycoproteins and oligosaccharides as acceptor substrates as ST6GAL1 does. ST6GAL2 can utilize the GalNAcβ1→4GlcNAc (LacdiNAc) structure in contrast to ST6GAL1.
