ST8SIA1 |
Last Update:2016-01-29 |
ST8SIA1, ST8 α-N-acetylneuraminide α-2,8-sialyltransferase 1, transfers sialic acid from CMP-sialic acid to the NeuAcα2→3Galβ1→4Glc-Cer (GM3). ST8SIA1 is also called as GD3/GT3 synthase or SIAT8A. ST8SIA1-deficient ES cells do not synthesize b-series gangliosides. Double deficient mice of ST8SIA1 and B4GALNT1 express GM3 as the major ganglioside and exhibited lethal audiogenic seizures.
