A4GALT

Last Update:2017-03-27

This enzyme is the enzyme that transfers a galactose to Lactosylceramide (LacCer) by the α1 - 4 bond using UDP - galactose as the donor, and as the product globotriaosylceramide (Gb3; CD77), which is the globo-series glycolipid, is biosynthesized. Gb3 glycolipid is the structure that is the starting point of the biosynthetic pathway of globo-series glycolipids.
