C1GALT1

Last Update:2022-08-29

C1GALT1 encodes a core 1 synthase; glycoprotein-N-acetylgalactosamine 3-beta-galactosyltransferase 1. This enzyme uses the non-reducing terminal GalNAc alpha- as an acceptor substrate and transfers Gal via beta1,3 linkage to synthesize Gal beta1,3GalNAc alpha-. This structure is known as the core 1 structure of O-linked glycans or T antigen/TF antigen. In mammals, cosmc, a core1 GalT1-specific chaperone molecule, is required for the normal folding of Core1 GalT protein.
