B4GALT7 encodes beta-1,4-galactosyltransferase 7. This enzyme transfer Gal toward Xylβ- as an acceptor substrate via β1,4 linkage to synthesize Galβ1,4Xyl-. This structure is found in the linkage tetrasaccharide structure (GlcAβ1-3Galβ1-3Galβ1-4Xyl-O-Ser/Thr) between glycosaminoglycans such as heparan sulfate and chondroitin sulfate and proteoglycan core proteins.
