B3GNT6 |
Last Update:2021-12-03 |
B3GNT6 encodes UDP-GlcNAc:betaGal beta-1,3-N-acetylglucosaminyltransferase 6. This enzyme uses GalNAc alpha- as an acceptor substrate and transfers GlcNAc with a beta1,3 linkage to synthesize GlcNAc beta1,3GalNAc alpha-, which is known as core 3 structure of O-glycan. The B3GNT6 gene is expressed mainly in goblet cells of colon in human and is thought to be related to the O-linked glycosylation of gastrointestinal mucins. B3GNT6 gene expression is lost upon tumorigenesis. In mouse model, high expression of B3GNT6 inhibited the metastatic potential of cancer cells, suggesting that B3GNT6 may have a function related to cancer malignancy.
