UGCG

Last Update:2016-01-29

UGCG is a UDP-glucose ceramide glucosyltransferase, which transfers glucose to a ceramide, synthesizing a glucosylceramide (GlcCer). UGCG is also knoan as b-glucosyltransferase (GlcT-I) or glucosylceramide synthase (GCS). GlcCer is a key precursor lipid for the synthesis of glycosphingolipids. Lack of UGCG resulted in embryonic lethality, indicating a vital role of glycosphingolipids during development and differentiation.
