本酵素はHNK-1糖鎖抗原(HSO3-GlcAb1-3Galb1-4GlcNAc-R)の合成に関与する酵素群の一つであり、その酵素活性としては、供与体基質であるUDP-GlcAからグルクロン酸(GlcA)を、受容体基質（Galb1-4GlcNAc-R）の非還元末端に存在するガラクトース残基へとb1-3結合で転移するものである。別名として、Glucuronyltransferase P (GlcAT-P)としても知られている。
