C3ORF21 (chromosome 3 open reading frame 21) encodes a UDP-xylose:α-xyloside α1,3-xylosyltransferase, XXYLT1, which has a homology with glucoside xylosyltransferases (GXYLT1 and GXYLT2). XXYLT1 localizes in ER and acts on xylose-α1,3-glucose-containing acceptor structures in O-glycans, such as Xyl-Glc-O-Ser in Notch EGF repeats. XXYLT1 is also known as glycosyltransferase 8 domain containing 3 (GLT8D3).
