The ACGG-Database(DB) is a proposal for a framework of the ACGG to provide the web-based research support through informatics and to encourage the collaborative research and interactions of Asian researchers.
In Japan, currently more than 300 lifescience-related databases are available. Each of them is maintained by different organizations. Since so many databases are available, information is dispersed, which makes it difficult and time-consuming for a researcher to find his/her desired information. To address such situation, four Japanese ministries have coordinated to conduct a national project for integration of the various areas of lifescience-related databases and persistent maintenance of them. The integrated database for glycoscience was designated as "JCGGDB: Database for the Japan Consortium for Glycobiology and Glycotechnology" in collaboration with many researchers from universities, institutes, and corporations.
The current situation is similar in Asia. There are many leading glycoscientists and valuable data in each country; these must be shared for further advancement of Asia's strength in glycoscience. We are now focusing on the establishment of the ACGG-DB. Through the development of the ACGG-DB as the integrated database of Asian knowledge, we wish to establish reliable network for enhanced interactions and collaborative researches among the Asian countries. We are waiting for new collaborators to add more databases. |
